International Scientific Conference "Intelligent and Multiprocessor Systems - Artificial Intelligence - 2003"

The 4nd International Scientific Conference "Intelligent and Multiprocessor Systems - Artificial Intelligence - 2003" took place from September 22-27 2003 in the village of Divnomorske, Gelendzhik District, Krasnodar Krai (Russia). The IMS-AI'2003 conference was held in the best sanatorium of the famous seaside resort Gelendzhik – a recreational and medical facility "Blue farness". The sanatorium is located on the shores of a picturesque bay of the Black Sea with an excellent sunny beach in the village of Divnomorskoe. This amazing place is a beautiful park with a Pitsunda pine grove.

The essential goal of the conference was to provide an opportunity for creators of artificial intelligence systems, and developers of multiprocessor systems and neurocomputers to exchange views, to develop existing concepts and strategies for using multiprocessor computer systems in intelligent systems, to clarify the most promising ways of basic and applied research in this field. Moreover, to determine the directions of practical implementation of intelligent multiprocessor systems with mass parallelism and programmable architecture, adapted to the structure of the problem in different areas of human activity.

DECISIONS

IV INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

«INTELLIGENT AND MULTIPROCESSOR SYSTEMS - 2003.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE - 2003»

22 - 27 SEPTEMBER 2003

Divnomorske, Gelendzhik,

Russia

The 4th International Scientific Conference "Intelligent and Multiprocessor Systems - 2003. Artificial Intelligence - 2003" took place in Divnomorskoe village, Gelendzhik district, Krasnodar Krai, Russia from 22 to 27 September 2003. The conference was initiated by the Research Institute of Multiprocessor Computing Systems of Taganrog State University of Radioengineering of the Ministry of Education of Russia (director I.A. Kalyaev), the Southern Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Donetsk Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Director A.I. Shevchenko). With the support of the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technology of Russia, the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), the Department of Informatics of NAS of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine . The work of the conference took the form of plenary, sectional meetings and discussions. Simultaneously with the work of the conference, the Scientific Youth School "Extreme Robotics" (ER - 2003) and the International Virtual Football Tournament were held.

The conference was attended by more than 160 scientists, graduate students and students representing 54 scientific and industrial organizations and universities from 23 cities in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, including 5 academicians and corresponding members of the RAS, 19 Doctor of Sciences, 38 Candidates of Sciences, 25 graduate students and more than 10 students.

At the plenary and sectional sessions of the conference were presented 82 reports, numerous problems and issues of the state and prospects of modern development of computer technologies were raised. The conference included 9 sections:

  • theoretical and practical bases of artificial intelligence systems;

  • computerization of natural languages;

  • multiprocessor computer systems;

  • algorithms and software of IMS;

  • neural networks and neural network technologies;

  • theory, design and modeling of robotic systems. Group work management;

  • extreme robotic systems and their applications;

  • image processing and pattern recognition systems.

A wide range of theoretical and applied problems of artificial intelligence, multiprocessor computing systems with mass parallelism, parallel computing, neurocomputers and neuroprocessor networks, new generations of robots and robotic systems were discussed at plenary and section meetings. Participants of the conference were active. They expressed a great interest to the event.

The conference received congratulatory letters with wishes of fruitful work from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Proceedings and other materials of the conference were previously published in Russia as the collection of conference materials (in two volumes).  In Ukraine, proceedings of the conferencing were published as special issues of the International Journal "Artificial Intelligence" (№ 3`2003, 4`2003).

The following was stated:

  1. Research and developments in the field of artificial intelligence, intelligent systems and computer technology are extremely relevant. It determines the main direction of modern world scientific progress.
  2. The extensive experience and a significant amount of theoretical and applied research in the field of intelligent systems and computer technology have accumulated In the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus. There are highly qualified scientists and specialists. That will allow the creation of modern technical means of massively parallel computer structures and robotics, which correspond to the level of available foreign analogues, and even surpass them in number of parameters.
  3. Research in the field of creating new generations of intellectualized information systems and intelligent robotics with extensive technical and physical capabilities is developing intensively. A large number of developments is applied in practice.
  4. The particular attention should be paid to the most intensive research and development in the field of computational linguistics and computer technology related to natural language communication between human and machine within the International project "Computerization of Natural Languages".

DECISIVE PART

The conference participants decided:

  • to continue research in the field of information computer technology and technologies of intellectual level, to exchange the obtained experience on results of researches and practical implementation of developments in the field of information technologies at conferences, symposia, seminars. It is reasonable to continue the improvement of terminological and conceptual apparatus of research related to the creation of artificial intelligence systems;

  • program and organizational committees of the 5th International Scientific and Technical Conference "Intelligent and Multiprocessor Systems - 2004. Artificial Intelligence - 2004" should attract the participation of enterprises and companies working in the field of information technology;

  • to include the Research Institute of Multiprocessor Computing Systems in the list of founders of the International scientific and technical journal "Artificial Intelligence";

  • to apply to the High Attestation Commission of Russia with a proposal to include the International scientific and theoretical journal "Artificial Intelligence" in the list of scientific and scientific-technical publications of the Russian Federation, in which the materials of doctoral dissertations should be published;

  • to involve scientific organizations, scientists and specialists of the Republic of Belarus working in the field of artificial intelligence, intelligent systems and computer technologies to participate in conferences;

  • taking into account the national importance of research in the field of intelligent multiprocessor systems and artificial intelligence, and the experience gained during the four international conferences, to continue the annual conferences alternately in Russia and Ukraine. 5th International Conference "Intelligent and Multiprocessor Systems - 2004. Artificial Intelligence - 2004" to be held in September 2004 in the village of Katsiveli, (Crimea, Ukraine);

  • to organize the section "Philosophical Foundations of Natural and Artificial Intelligence" during the 5th International Conference "Intelligent and Multiprocessor Systems - 2004. Artificial Intelligence - 2004";

  • to note the high scientific and organizational level of the scientific conference of IMS - 2003.
