Department of Theoretical Research in the Area of Artificial Intelligence

The Department was created in 1992 at the initiative of of the Director of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems, professor Anatoliy Shevchenko. It was created to identify promising areas of research in the field of artificial intelligence with the final goal of creating intelligent software and hardware means at the human level.

The research supervisor of the Department is Anatoliy Shevchenko, a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. As a result of researches under the scientific guidance and consulting of Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Shevchenko, the following fundamental results were achieved:

- a theoretical scheme of functioning of artificial intelligence has been proposed, the definition of "artificial intelligence" was developed;

- a formalized evidence of the possibility of creating artificial systems with artificial thinking and the possibilities of physical and mechanical movement has been found;

- a new solution to the problem of searching for patterns, an integral part of which is the classical task of training in images recognition, has been proposed. For the first time, ideas and approaches of training image recognition based on the theory of reduction have been described, methods for teaching image recognition and their application to solving applied problems, especially for solving problems of searching for patterns, have been developed;

- new methods for controlling walking electronic and mechanical robots based on intelligent data-measuring systems and modern telecommunication facilities have been developed;

- the scientific and theoretical foundations for creating intelligent computer systems for recognizing verbal and visual images with elements of semantic perception were developed;

- the concept of phonemic recognition of a sequence of separately pronounced words has been expanded, the development of an automatic system for recognizing sound records of musical compositions has been improved;

- methods for modeling nonstationary nonlinear processes of an arbitrary nature with uncertainties of a structural, statistical and parametric nature have been developed. Criteria for establishing the nonlinearities and nonstationarities of various types has been proposed. The concept of the structure of the model of the object has been introduced, the selection of the best model from the set of evaluated candidates is carried out using a variety of statistical parameters of the quality of the model and the proposed expert rules;

- new methods for creating intelligent computer systems for recognizing verbal and visual images with elements of the semantic perception of information texts have been developed.
