Presentation of the research cooperation program between the Joint Research Center of the European Commission and Ukraine

On September 14-15, 2016, the staff of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems took part in the EU information forum dedicated to the presentation of the research cooperation program between the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission and Ukraine. The event took place in the Conference Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The forum was opened by Anatoliy Zavhorodniy, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Maksym Strikha, Deputy Minister of Science and Education, Volodymyr Susha, Director General of the Joint Research Center (JRC) and Hugo Mingarelli, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

In the welcoming speech, the importance and significance of scientific and technical research and development, for the progress and implementation of scientific achievements in everyday life, was noted.

 

In his report, Volodymyr Shukha, Director General of the EC Joint Research Center, noted that the Joint Research Centre (JRC) is active in the EU Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, with a strong focus on smart specializations (RIS3), which have been developed for the entire EU as a key component of the regional development policy. Further specialization Smart (S3) has been recognized as a useful basis for research and innovation in EU Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, which will contribute to comprehensive and sustainable economic growth in the countries to which this policy is addressed.

During the two days of work, the main attention was paid to the prospects and directions of research and innovation strategies in the field of smart technologies and their specialization (RIS3), as well as the opportunities for Ukrainian scientists. Reports and presentations on the areas of start-up were made by: Alex Gnamus, Guido Lemoni, Jean Duisart, Jan Kuchera, Ulla Engelmann, Jose Roman Leon Laura, Michael Ralph, Manfried Spiceberg, Pirita Vuorinen.

 Information on specific areas and opportunities for intensifying cooperation between Ukrainian scientists and European partners were provided by: Lina Stanionute, JRC employee, Marco Gren (Slovenia), Justina Gorzoch (Poland), Jurgita Petrauskine (Lithuania), Peter Kladek (Czech Republic), Gorazd Weiss (Austria) and others.

Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Space Research, the Institute of Economic Forecasting and other Ukrainian research institutes spoke. The participants of the forum were greatly interested and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation in scientific research on priority European programs.

For the staff of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems, as well as for all Ukrainian scientists, there are significant opportunities not only to get acquainted with the latest achievements of European scientists, but also to reach a higher level of research, receive funding for joint research, improve existing achievements for possible use in the European market.
